Gemfire James 0 Posted August 2, 2001 Ok, so my friend here has Celeron 533 384 MB RAM GeForce 2 MX 400 64 MB AGP (Asus 7100 I guess) Windows 98 (God forbid) now...he has latest Via, latest DirectX, and 12.41 det drivers, and latest flashed bios for his mobo. 3DMark 2001 gives him a 1400 mark 3DMark 2000 gives him a 2200 mark with 800 X 600 at 32-bit @ 75 Hz To him, he says that is slow for his video card, and that in UT, he should be getting about 85 to 100 fps running at 800 X 600 within the game itself, I find that hard to believe, but anyways. What can he do to speed up the framerate? Thanks. Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted August 3, 2001 8)In 32-bit? 8) On a GF2MX, 32-bit is going to only be good up until 800x600, and that's really the limit. I'd say he's doing pretty good. I've found the fastest dets., at least under Win2k, are the 10.80's. That Celeron 533 is probably hurting him too, and is probably the biggest issue of speed here. I find that pretty hard to believe myself of 800x600x32. 16-bit, I'll bite, but 85fps at 32-bit on any MX? I don't think so. That's Radeon and Kyro II territory. Your friend either doesn't know what he's talking about, or is smoking something... The MX's aren't crappy, but he seems to think they can deliver more than what they really can without overclocking. JP- 0 Posted August 3, 2001 Celeron + GF2MX isnt exactly the most powerful machine ever. 3dmarks seem fine and there is no way that that comp could get 85-100 fps in UT BTW run 3dmark 2000 in 1024x768x16 so you can compare it easily with everyone else, as thats the default.
