RCS 0 Posted August 9, 2001 When I boot up windows and I check my memory usages in Task Manager. My Kernel Memory is higher after a few month of use. When I installed win2k the total kernel memory after booting up is around 36000k or 38000k.. Now it is 42000k or 43000k. I usually shut down or reboot the computer. Am I wasting memory?.. I need some help how to reduce the Kernel Memory back down to under 40000k? Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted August 9, 2001 Remove unnecessary programs/update drivers. Some programs use drivers that use the Kernel. Git rid of 'em! Share this post Link to post
RCS 0 Posted August 9, 2001 I updated to service pack 2... I haven't updated my sound card drivers or my video card (i should have not buy a 3dfx card).. Using SBLive but i updated to those non offical drivers and haven't really notice any change with the Kernel Memory.. The program I have on is during boot up is Norton Anti Virus and Direct CD.. I know that the Anti Virus takes up more of Kernel Memory.. but when i first installed the anti virus my Kernel Memory was much lower at the time. The Total used to be around 37000k or 39000k back then when I boot up. Over time the total went up to 42000k or 43000k after booting up. Even with adding more programs in start up and it still went up. Started up in the registry - 3dfx tool, Adaptec Direct CD, Norton eMail Protect, NPS Event Checker (part of Norton anti virus) and Tweak UI. Thats all is starting up...
