Dear users,

Before I begin, the network setup:

Windows Network over a 10BT 8-port HUB.

3 Windows 2000 Professional machines. 1 NUC / machine.

protocols / services:

NETBEUI (protocol)

TCP/IP (for the NICs) - (protocol)

Client for Microsoft Networks (client)

File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks (service)

All machines work fine on the network for sharing files/directories/etc..

Now on to the question:

We can only get 2 machines to succesfully connect to the internet through a cable modem (using this hub) at any given time. For instance, ONLY two of machines A,B,C can connect to the internet through the hub. Does anyone know of any way we can "patch" or solve this to haver all 3 machines connect to the internet at once?? The ISP claims that it cannot be done due to the cable modem limitations, but I've seen situations with 8+ machines connected to the internet through a hub and a cable/DSL modem.

Someone please reply, even if it is a simple "no". Thanx!

Each machine connecting through a HUB needs it's own IP address. Your ISP seemingly allows 2 at once. Ask them if you can get another IP (if so, there will probably be an extra charge.)

OR - Best bet = Use a Cable/DSL Router! In use it will only show as one ISP connection and route specific requests to the proper internal network connection. (Most advertise they can handle up to 255 networked computers; but I doubt you'd get much speed in a network that large!)
