4-way interleave with only 3 sticks of RAM?

Recommended Posts

I've got the VP6, and I'm wondering about the 4-way interleave in BIOS. The thing is I only have 3 DIMM's used--all 128MB PC133--and the 4th DIMM empty. Right now it's set to auto, but I'd like to know if setting it to 4-way would help me with only 3 DIMMs, not do anything or cause problems. Specs on sig line.

4 way interleaving doesn't mean you need "4 sticks" of mem.

Wether you can use 4-way interleaving or not is dependent on how many banks each stick holds, its either two or four. All fairly recent sticks I've heard of have four.

"...but I'd like to know if setting it ..."

Well, just try it. Benchmark it. If you can't find, feel and see the difference yourself, what good is it gonna be ?

Ahhh. *smack* Oh, yeah, banks! Not slots, duh. Okay, might as well try it out here. I wasn't sure, as I haven't had this memory option before, and had seen something on it...just never had it before.

Thanx for the info.
