Redhorse 0 Posted August 21, 2001 I'm trying to use X-wing vs. Tie-Fighter under W2k. On this site it says that it should be possible with admin rights, but i can't start the game. When trying to launch the game the dialog for installing DirectX appears (i'm currently using DirectX 8). Is anyone able to play the game on W2k or do you have any suggestions? (Setting the compatibility mode to Win95 does not work) Thx Redhorse Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted August 21, 2001 You may have to log on as administrator, and not just assign administrative purposes to an account. I've seen that as a fix for one older game here. Share this post Link to post
Redhorse 0 Posted August 21, 2001 I am logged on as administrator, not just as user with administrator rights... But thx anyway :-) Share this post Link to post
JP- 0 Posted August 23, 2001 Go to the directory where you installed it to and run the exe manually, the only thing that stops the game running is the game launcher that comes up. If u run it manually it skips the DX 'check' and just loads up. Share this post Link to post
Redhorse 0 Posted August 23, 2001 I also tried that, didn't work, too... But anyway, i got it running now, i've downloaded the latest compatibility patch from MS and selected compatibility mode "Win98" for XvT. Now the game is running :-) Share this post Link to post
ConQueso 0 Posted November 12, 2001 I had problems with Win98 layer using Application compatibility toolkit, it wouldn't detect my joystick. So I removed the old custom database, and did a win98 layer fix after de-selecting emulateJoystick. Ironically that worked. Just remember to launch QFixApp (and leave running) before running the game. (i did the fix for both files, so I can run the game through the default shortcut) Share this post Link to post
