How do I make a boot disk in RH8?

Recommended Posts

I'm a Linux newb so bear with me. I need to know how to make a new boot disk in order for my system to switch to the new kernel (I think). I downloaded and installed every update using the RH8 update tool, and it updated my kernel too. In the Red Hat Network Alert Notification Tool's Critical Information Tab, it says: “Your system is currently running kernel-2.4.18-14, but the newest installed kernel is kernel-2.4.18-17.8.0. It is recommended that you reboot at the first opportunity to test this new kernel.” But when I reboot I'm still using the kernel-2.4.18-14 kernel.

I did not install any boot loader like lilo, so I'm using the floppy disk to boot into RH8 and removing the disk to get into W2k. So, I'm just assuming that if I made a new boot disk it will load into the new kernel. But, I could be completely wrong so if someone would be so kind as to letting me know (in newb steps) how to switch to the new kernel, it would be greatly appreciated.
