XP Power toys

Recommended Posts

Just saw this at Active win:

Here is a snip:

Faster User Switcher: With Fast User Switching enabled on Windows XP, this PowerToy allows you to switch users without having to use the logon screen.

Shell Player: This PowerToy plays MP3 files and WMA files from the taskbar.

Task Switcher: Replaces the existing Alt + Tab application switching mechanism of Windows XP. It provides a thumbnail preview of windows in the task list and is compliant with the new Windows XP visual style.

IE Find Toolbar: This PowerToy makes Internet Explorer's find dialog accessible as a toolbar. This allows searches on the current page without a floating dialog.

Open Command Window Here: This PowerToy adds an "Open Command Window Here" context menu option on file system folders. This gives users a quick way to open a command window (cmd.exe) pointing at a selected folder in the Explorer UI.

TweakUI: Provides UI for system settings that are not exposed in the Windows XP default UI.

PowerToy Calc: Graphing calculator.

Bulk Resize for Photos: Allows you to make a new, resized copy of your selected pictures in the same folder they are currently located in. You can opt to resize one or many pictures (as a batch).

Has anyone tried them?

Please, if anyone has the file msg me.. laugh

thxs.

I installed the shell audio player and man is it cool! Only plays wma and mp3 only. When a song is playing and you hover your mouse over the taskbar audio player you get transparent pop-up with song info.

Anyone wanna guinea pig any of these on Win2K?

I think that ShellPlayer would be quite sweet.

Maybe I'll do it, and come whining back here when I break something.:P

Where exactly are the executables for the programs installed? There are no shortcuts created in my start menu or control panel...

-Shell player:

right click on the task bar>toolbars>audioplayer.

IE toolbar: after install, restart IE, right click on IE' s toolbar>add.

DOS prompt: right click in explorer on a folder> open cammand window here.

Calc in start menu.

app to resize pics: right click on the pics> rezise.

User switcher: windows key+Q to switch user..buggy on my machine (RC1).

To the above: Mine was in the Add/Remove Programs Dialog.

I tried a couple on Win2K:

Faster User Switcher: Haven't installed it.

Shell Player: Seemed to install fine, but didn't work; uninstalled.

Task Switcher: Installed, but gave error at boot, and didn't work; uninstalled.

IE Find Toolbar: Haven't installed it.

Open Command Window Here: Worked fine, but I already had a Reghack for this.

TweakUI: Haven't installed it. [1.33 is fine for now.]

PowerToy Calc: Works flawlessly.

Bulk Resize for Photos: Haven't tried it yet.
