Boot.ini problem, I CAN'T BOOT XP, HELP

It took me a long time to finally get xp to install because it kept freezing, it got to the point where I had to install windows 98. So I install winxp seperate of that and everythings dandy, than my dumb *** formats the c: and now my comp won't boot, I have xp on d: so its still there and I have win98 installed again, problem is I can't boot to XP. I need a boot.ini file...or whats in one so I can get my comp to boot to xp, please help out, thanks in advance!

I need to figure out how to get

 

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

 

to be my primary boot...right now its booting win98 and I have both on...I just want xp to load...How can I make myself a boot file and load winxp?

Don't forget that NOT ONLY Boot.ini is necessary for XP/NT ...

 

You need NTDETECT.COM and NTLDR too.

And I personally don't know any program which can write these two files to the right place on your booting HDD.

 

I can be wrong but I think that only repair function of booting CD can do this.

The only cd I have is...the basic install one...I won't go into increminating details..but ya know, I have the cd. Now on my hard drive all that is there is on D: and its XP, I just need to figure out how to get it to be recognized, thanks in advance!

Boot from CD> Choose repair> Recovery Console>

 

X:\fixmbr

X:\fixboot

 

That should do it. Reboot...
