Linux compatible routers

Recommended Posts

Would appreciate hearing if anyone has successfully used a D-Link model DI-604 (4 Port Cable/DSL router) under Linux? I am particularly interested in it's Firewall capabilities.

Sorry the only router I've used is an actual linux router. An old Pentium 100 with a floppy and 16Megs of RAM, running Coyote Linux using IPtables for firewalling. But I do know that Linksys generally has good support for their products and most of the routers out there by any manufacturer are configured by an internal web interface. So as long as you can open up Konqueror or Mozilla you can configure the router.

Yeah, I use a Linksys BEFSR-41 4 port switch/router with 2 Windows 2000 servers and 2 Debian boxes. All of them can manage the router through a web browser.

If I am not mistaken, I have not heard of any routers that would not work with Linux, especially Cable. It is simply a matter of configuiring the router with the proper external and LAN settings. I am using a Linksys with bothXP and Mandrake 9 with no problems at all. I also use GuardDog firewall for Linux, but default it denies all, and you have to specify DNS ..etc, the way a firewall should work, not allow everything by default.
