Asus P2B ACPI problems

A while back someone had ACPI problems running XP on P2B boards:

Did you come up with a solution? I too has this problem, and what's worse - my HDD is only allowed to run in PIO mode making the whole thing dog slow. I haven't been able to find information regarding this issue at Asus Support or anywhere else. It might be a BIOS problem. If you know anything about this or has similiar problems please respond.

 

It looks like MS has implemented a stricter ACPI policy in XP. See http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/onnow/BIOSAML.htm

 

Could that be the cause? I have tried every hack under the sun including forcing DMA but no luck. I'm thinking about reinstalling without ACPI support (the F5 thing). What are the sideeffects of having no ACPI?

Sideeffects? None really...only that you will be able to control your IRQs as you want, instead of having them pooled under #9 (for example)

 

Personally I really dont use the suspend-to-ram or the hibernate options, they are kinda gay I prefer to shutdown and boot old fashioned. If one bit in the memory contents gets corrupted, then you can forget about a complete restore out of STR or hibernation...your call.

 

For stability and troubleshooting issues, ACPI is definately a no-go.

I have an ASUS P2B-F. After my first install, I was getting shutdown problems etc etc, because XP only recognised my machine as a Standard Computer. Did a reinstall, hit F5 and changed it to ACPI PC and now all is good. No issues to report here.
