windows2000prof 0 Posted September 10, 2001 Heres the deal I am running an AMD 500 With a 3dfx voodoo 3. I tried to install Tribes and I keep getting a Unhandled exeption error? I just want to get some advice on this matter. Is 2000 Professional a gaming OS or should I go back to 98 ? This isnt the only game I have had problems with either Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted September 10, 2001 What other games are you having trouble with? What motherboard do you have? Win2k wasn't really intended to be a gaming OS, but the games I run work quite well. If you want to look for your games to see if they work, check out the Games database here. You may have to use the Application Compatability program to get some of your games to run. If you don't have Service Pack 2, I'd get that before doing anything else. Share this post Link to post
windows2000prof 0 Posted September 10, 2001 what games do you run so I can try one of them ? The other thing that is driving me crazy is every once in a while I will be using a program such as WINMX and my pc will restart out of nowhere ... I already ran service pack 2 because my internet explorer was generating errors and it didnt help. Oh yeah I have a ASUS P5a Super 7 with 256 mb od pc-100 ram My PC is a little oout dated but I used to play CS and I own people even with my AMD 500 Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted September 11, 2001 Half-Life and that whole series runs fine, as well as most games pretty much. Newer games usually will offically run on 2k right out of the box, but not all, so check before you buy. The only major trip comes from EA. They adamantly refuse to support nearly all of their games in Win2k. Most FPS games run on 2k, and even if 2k isn't listed, I've had no problems running games that are listed to run in NT4. Get the latest drivers for your motherboard, video card, and other hardware in your system first. Games that I've run in 2k: Half-Life series, Unreal and UT, Descent 3, Serious Sam, Quake 1. Most games will work, and people have gotten some of EA's games to run in 2k. Check the games database--it's not in the forums, look on the main page. You can see which games work under which OS and which don't. Share this post Link to post

yakkob 0 Posted September 13, 2001 Have you enough cooling in your case? Is it a desktop case and not a tower? My V3 3000 used to overheat and reset my old AMD machine. I bought a tower and put extra cooling in (I wasn't oc'ing btw) and the prob went away. If you have a card right next to your V3 3000 move it slot down to aid with this. Brian Frank 0 Posted September 13, 2001 Now that I think about it, Socket 7 boards weren't AGP friendly, even though 3dfx cards didn't have that great of AGP implementation to begin with. Doesn't really help much... Yup. Yak right about cooling being a problem, although with that system I wouldn't suggest spending your money for a new tower on your current system. Look at a PC shop for fans. Best Buy doubled their prices, at least locally, on their fans and other cooling stuff. Get ball bearing fans tho; they last longer. Most cooling shouldn't cost more than $10 a fan, but it varies by location. Until recently when I stopped using my V3, I did have a slot cooler right below it, and could overclock it without having any lockups. Share this post Link to post
Busby 0 Posted September 14, 2001 It's not any cooling problems or hardware problems. It's Tribes 2! Seriously it is. When I had my Voodoo 3 that game would not run except in windowed mode and Dynamix could have cared less about Voodoo owners. Some people have had luck some haven't. Make sure and patch Tribes to the latest version and even try the BETA patch. Share this post Link to post
