Ron_Jeremy 0 Posted September 11, 2001 I'm getting an error each time I boot my PC. I'm pretty sure it's my fault, 'cuz I have a very bad habit of shutting down as many system Services as possible upon completeing a fresh install of Win2K (Adv Server). I figured that if it's just my stand-alone home pc, why run them all? I have tried restarting (& setting to automatic) many services, but this has not cleared the problem. Anyway, it goes like this: "A driver failed to load..bla..bla..See Event Log for details." So, I open up Event Viewer & am told this: "The Windows Installer service terminated with the following error: The system cannot find the file specified." When checking the Services applet, I notice "Windows Installer" is set to AUTOMATIC, but has not started. If I chose to start it, it does so without problems. Its executable path is stated as "C:\WINNT\system32\msiexec.exe /V". If I look inside the system32 folder, I can find msiexec.exe, therefore am puzzled why the Windows Installer Service cannot find it. Also, this particular service shows that it has NO depedencies. I did a bit of reading before posting this & found that the "Application Management" service is somehow related to the Windows Installer service. I checked its status & it is fine (STARTED > AUTOMATIC). Ideas anyone? Share this post Link to post
AndyFair 0 Posted September 11, 2001 Have you tried searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base for the Event ID? That may shed a bit more light on your problem... The other thing to do is to re-enable all the services you have disabled, then diable them one by one and see which one causes the problem to appear again. That option will take a long time though!! FatFish 0 Posted September 11, 2001 you may want to find out the dependence of the services too. Share this post Link to post
