How do i install a IDE controller card (PCI) to work with XP

Recommended Posts

Ive installed a SIIG Ultra ATA 66 card in my pci slot and let winxp install the drivers for it before i plugged devices in it, i restart, plug em in (boot hard drive). Then it shows them in the cards bios when booting, it tries to boot but just flashes the curser with no activity or errors? what am i doing wrong?

When you say you let XP install the card's drivers, did you just reboot and make sure it completed the install? If you didn't, do that first, then shut down and plug your drives into the card.

You may have done this, but I wasn't sure. Good luck.

You probably need to enable SCSI boot in your bios - I know it's not really SCSI, but that's how most bios' treat add-on IDE cards.

If that still fails, you may need to modify the boot.ini. It will have a line like 'multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS', and since it's on a different controller now, that 'multi' number is gonna have to change. The best way to do this is to boot off the windows cd and tell it to repair the boot sector.

Hope this helps - please keep us updated.....
