you can use a normal win9X boot disk to boot your computer.

then run i386/winnt or i386/winnt32 to install XP

Uhh, you need to format the drive for a clean install. You should be able to do this in the WinXP setup. Just boot off the XP disc...

You don't need to use DOS at all: just boot off of the XP disc. Make sure your CD-ROM is set as the first boot device in BIOS.

Kill me if i remembered to do that, will have to try it !

Did you try that or it is just theoretical, but it makes sense if the NTkernel based os doesn't support dos.

I know for a fact that it does. Win2k and XP I'm positively sure they will boot from the CD-ROM, but I can't comment on NT never having used it. The exception to booting off the CD is if it's an older CD drive.

Old BIOS won't do it either.

and if your CDRom or BIOS won't support booting off CD..
use the 9X boot disk, and run winnt32 from /i386

The easiest thing yo do is just create a standard win9x bootdisk and then boot off that.

The win98 natively install cd drivers, make sure you get smartdrive on the disk as well tho, otherwise you'll be waiting ages for the precopy to finish
