Taliesin2 0 Posted September 20, 2001 Downloaded the new multiplayer demo of Return to Wolfenstein Castle, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be running for me under Win XP. I'm running the Win XP Pro final, and it seems OpenGL is to blame, so I figured I'd post here and see if anyone more knowledgeable about openGL could help. I'm using a Voodoo 3 card and the default drivers that Win XP installed. Here's the message the console is giving me before quiting: Quote: Initializing OpenGL subsystem ...initializing QGL ...calling LoadLibrary( 'C:\WINNT\System32\opengl32.dll' ): succeeded ...setting mode 3: 640 480 FS ...using desktop display depth of 32 ...calling CDS: ok ...registered window class ...created window@0,0 (640x480) Initializing OpenGL driver ...getting DC: succeeded ...GLW_ChoosePFD( 32, 24, 8 ) ...35 PFDs found ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed ...GLW_ChoosePFD( 32, 24, 0 ) ...35 PFDs found ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed ...failed to find an appropriate PIXELFORMAT ...restoring display settings ...WARNING: could not set the given mode (3) ...setting mode 3: 640 480 FS ...using colorsbits of 16 ...calling CDS: ok ...created window@0,0 (640x480) Initializing OpenGL driver ...getting DC: succeeded ...GLW_ChoosePFD( 16, 16, 0 ) ...35 PFDs found ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed ...GLW_ChoosePFD( 16, 16, 0 ) ...35 PFDs found ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed ...failed to find an appropriate PIXELFORMAT ...restoring display settings ...WARNING: could not set the given mode (3) ...shutting down QGL ...unloading OpenGL DLL ...assuming '3dfxvgl' is a standalone driver ...initializing QGL ...calling LoadLibrary( 'C:\WINNT\System32dfxvgl.dll' ): failed ...shutting down QGL ----- CL_Shutdown ----- RE_Shutdown( 1 ) ----------------------- GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem Anyone have some ideas? Emilee1 0 Posted September 20, 2001 It works fine for me. Did you install new drivers? The ones that ship with XP dont support OpenGL. Get the new Det 4's. Share this post Link to post

Sandaasu 0 Posted September 21, 2001 Your problem is that the Voodoo drivers included in XP don't include supprt for OpenGL. Hope for some divers that do, or get a different video card. Share this post Link to post

His problem is common with people who have GeForces and try to play OpenGL games, since the default drivers XP installs dont support OpenGL. Get newer drivers for XP, dont use the ones that it installs for you. Share this post Link to post
Taliesin2 0 Posted September 21, 2001 Found new drivers, searched the NT Compatible news and found a batch that someone put together from earlier releases that supports OpenGL. Share this post Link to post
sapiens74 0 Posted September 22, 2001 Yeah that patchwork driver is supposed to work really well. Share this post Link to post
