str8eiht 0 Posted November 9, 2001 There is a fantastic feature in Windows 2000 where u can set an IP on a jet direct box on a HP Printer and then print directly to it without the need to create a queue on Netware or NT Server, which we use here in the University to manager our printing needs. To do this all u do is add the Std. TCP / IP port after the drivers for the printer have been installed locally, this port replaces the std. lpt port. The std. TCP / IP port is NOT available in NT 4 or Win 9x as far as i can see and i haven't found any ref to it on support.microsoft.com or hp.com. It would be great if i could add this ability to 9x and NT 4 so i could avoid having to wait for printer queues to be setup on the Novell Netware server. Any suggestions? Share this post Link to post
Uykucu 0 Posted November 10, 2001 Use the jetdirects SW, it should do it automatically. Share this post Link to post
Intlharvester 0 Posted November 11, 2001 On NT4, IIRC, TCP/IP printing is an optional component. Install it from the network control panel and service pack again. Share this post Link to post
