whats faster? ultraata or scsi?

just wondering if someone could confirm for me: which is faster, the latest/greatest ultra ata or latest/greatest scsi? and this is for a game PC, not a server or anything. thanks

While, yes, SCSI is faster, do you really need SCSI?

If you need the fastest, I hope you have deep pockets sir. Cheap and SCSI aren't words I'd usually use in reference to hard drives.

Let's put it this way: I just got a pair of IBM 60GXP 40GB 7200RPM ATA100 drives for $190 + shipping. You try to get SCSI for that price.

 

I'm not discouraging SCSI, but for gaming I don't know if that's necessary. If you have the money, hell yeah! GO FOR IT!!!!!

SCSI eats less CPU cycles, that's for sure. But Im sorry, I wouldn't spend my money on SCSI.

SCSI isn't about speed, its about bandwidth. For a games machine go IDE - its more then enough.

True, SCSI is really intended for intense bandwidth and less CPU usage ideal for high class workstations. You can get more space and more than 1 hard disk than the price of 1 SCSI drive + controller. Its a really expensive option.

thats pretty much what i thought. a friend was just telling me that he was gonna get a SCSI machine (which would be a gaming machine), and I told him to just stick w/ata.

 

for servers, however, thats a different story...

Mmmm:D 2 of them in RAID 0. Do you know how much crap you could store on that.

Do you know I have yet to fill up a 20GB hard drive, yet I have way more than that on both machines?
