Lan problem

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I got 3 computers at home and I'm trying to connect it to a LAN. My main computer the one I am typing from now has two network cards one connected to my cable internet provider one connected to my hub the other two PC's are connected to the same hub. The main computer can access the internet and so can one of the other 2 computers but the last one cannot access the net but it can see computer number 2 (Not the server). They respective ip's are 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3. The first being the server can ping itself and the second but not the last one. The second can ping all computers the last one can ping itself and the second one. What am I doing wrong? Any advice appreciated. All 3 computers are running Windows 2000 Professional.

Thanks in advanced.

This sounds like a Lewis Carrol freakyness...

Anyways, maybe you mistyped the subnetmask on the 3rd box or something.

also don't forget to try changing the ports around on your hub.

It may be that you have a messed up hub!

Also just for the heck of it use a crossover cable to connect computer 1 directly to computer 3. Then see if they can ping each other. If they can then it is your hub that is likely the culprit.

FYI if you want to make a crossover cable on one end of the cable just switch wires 1 and 3 and switch wires 2 and 6.
