RedStar 0 Posted November 25, 2001 i rush out and buy this thing (44$ cdn). I eagerly click on instal and... BAM!! Civilization III Error installing ikernel.exe ok (no..its not BLOODY OK!! I don't see this covered in the infograme's FAQ. I have emailed them. But, i want instant gratification so i thought i'd post here to get it and cry some. WHaaaaaaaa! Share this post Link to post
RedStar 0 Posted November 25, 2001 turns out if i had waited...would not look foolish i bumped res up to 1024 * 768 *16 bit installation then proceeded normally (don't know why). Share this post Link to post
MKL 0 Posted December 5, 2001 No probs running Civ 3 here. Top game. Btw, if you add "KeepRes=1" to Civilization3.ini, you can run at whatever your desktop res is. Share this post Link to post
RedStar 0 Posted December 5, 2001 i miss those small wonder movies and the nuke blast sound is not as good as civ 2. But the random patter of the civ3 railways makes the game look much better than the other versions. cosmetics aside, the only real problem i have with civ 3 is taking over large cities (25+). Since most improvements are destoyed..and it takes more than 1 turn to quell their resistors (16 usually).. the city reverts back to the enemy civilization. result: you lose all your units. I hate that. grrr (how's that for a mangled paragraph. hehe) Share this post Link to post
MKL 0 Posted December 6, 2001 Yeah, I can agree with most of that, although I have to admit I'm only on my second game. Been so busy! Btw, check out www.apolyton.net/civ3 for a list of what's in the patch that should be out in a couple of days. It should hopefully sort out a few things. Share this post Link to post
RedStar 0 Posted December 6, 2001 thanks for the head's up. it does promise to fix some of the irritating stuff. But it looks like no luck on some of the major corruption/culture take over mechanics. and who knew you could exort so much money from the AI. lol ) shrt ans: Thanks for the url!! MKL 0 Posted December 7, 2001 Actually there's a few things in there to weaken the effects of corruption. It was probably the thing that was most complained about, so I'm guessing they've done a bit of tweaking to it. * Corruption effects have been reduced. * Corruption calculations for Communism are now flat for the number-of-cities factor. * Police Stations now reduce corruption in the city they are built in. Apolyton is the best Civ site out there. I especially recommend the Strategy forum. Share this post Link to post
JP- 0 Posted December 7, 2001 1 thing i saw in there was... * It's slightly easier to culturally acquire cities. It was easy to begin with! Share this post Link to post
RedStar 0 Posted December 7, 2001 lol. i always assumed that's what police stations did..was reduce corruption. reduce war weariness..HA! i still had to convert to communism (from demo) after a mere 5 or so yrs of war. Too bad there is no statue of liberty to get rid of the anarchy. btw: thanks --the new nvidia drivers certainly did speed up scrolling. in fact, they boosted my 3dmark 2001 score by 350 pts! RedStar 0 Posted December 9, 2001 Far from corruption being reduced, patch has had the reverse effect. Immediately after patch installation...my communist empire is now LOSING 1300$/turn from what it had been making without patch. even at 100% revenue..i am losing 100 a turn. cities well behind my borders (but recently conquered now up and leave i have close to 200 cities..the enemy has 6. I am one very unhappy citizen now!) Share this post Link to post
MKL 0 Posted December 9, 2001 I may stand corrected, but I believe with Communism the corruption is based purely on number of cities rather than distance from Capital, which would explain why it's hard work to keep 200 economically viable cities . Not neccessarily an error with the patch. Probably just a different slant on gameplay. I believe it's entirely deliberate. Haven't played since I patched it yet... Share this post Link to post
