Before I upgrade from win NT to 2k are there any issues I sh

Recommended Posts

In my place of work we have 60 machines with win98 and win 95 connecting to an NT server. It has worked well for 2 years now but since fiting an new hard disk which was done so I am told correctlyProxy server no longer runs all it functions so Internet access to users no longer is available. Tried everything. un install reinstall etc, no luck. It was recommended we go for win 2000 and that this along with other benifits would repair our proxy problems.

I need to know if this is the case and also if there are any upgrade issues I should be aware of, I would hate for the system to go belly up on me.

It is prefered to install over NT so as to keep all the user profiles and settings, software etc. Can you see any problems with this course of action.

Any comments, or advice are very welcome.

Thanks

-I know it's gonna be long and a pain in the ***, but do yourself a favor and do a clean install on these machines. Going from 9x to NT will do a number on the systems. It's better to do it now when you plan for it, rather than when you're in a cruch at a critcal time.

-I'd suggest taking a machine or two for testing purposes, and see how it flys for you. I can't guarantee all the software will work, so keep that in mind too. Check MS site to see if your apps will run under 2k. If they run under NT 4, 2k shouldn't be an issue.

-Make sure you have at least 128MB of RAM on all of them too, 64 will run--just barely.

-But first: Do your research on this. It may be better to just buy new systems than try to fiddle with them. Just look at all options first.

-Did I mention to have at least 128MB of RAM?

Good luck.;)
