Corinthian 0 Posted November 28, 2001 The maual for my Abit BX133-RAID states that "HPT 370 IDE controller is designed to support high-speed mass storage. Thus we don't suggest you connect non-disk devices that use the ATA/ATAPI interfaces, such as CD-ROM to HPT 370 IDE connector". Now, I would like to connect my Plextor CD-RW as a slave on the same cable as my ATA 100 harddrive on the HPT 370 controller, to get rid of some cables in my box. Maybe stupid, as the manual says that I should NOT do that. Any thoughts on this... Will it work OK, or will I get a lot of coasters ? Share this post Link to post
Ge0ph 0 Posted November 29, 2001 I'm not sure but I don't even think a CD rom will be detected on that controller. Best way to find out is hook it up and see. Share this post Link to post
jpease 0 Posted November 29, 2001 Quote: Any thoughts on this... I use the abit kt-raid. It uses the same hotpoint controller. I did installed my cdrw one time but it did not work. Easy CD creator went crazy. In fact crashed my OS. BTW, you do not want to connect your Plextor CD-RW as a slave on the same cable as your ATA 100 harddrive. It will make your controller default to the slowest device on that channel, your cdrw, sloooooowing down your hdd. Not a good move. Cheers Share this post Link to post
Corinthian 0 Posted November 29, 2001 OK, thank you for the replies. I guess I'll stick to two cables then Share this post Link to post
