CUViper 0 Posted December 6, 2001 Ok, I have cable internet shared through my computer, with 4 computers on the network (all running XP pro). We seem to be having DNS issues with the clients on my network.... The computers can all ping and browse by IP just fine. However, name resolution doesn't work quite right. If I try to resolve a name from another computer, it won't work. However, if I do it from my computer (the "server"), it works, and then I go back to that client computer, and the same website works. But any website that MY machine hasn't already resolved won't work. Also, after a while, DNS will stop working at all. If I then renew the IP address on the client, it will go back to that kinda working state. I entered the DNS servers manually, and that worked ok fo a little while, but then it stopped again. A renew on the connection still fixed it, and it seems to go longer between breaking. I don't like this solution anyway, and something is still apparantly broken on my computer.... All of this may be AT&T's fault though, because I was involved in that whole Excite@Home fiasco, and I just got turned back on today. Today is also when ICS stopped working right too, so that is suspicious. But, since MY computer works just fine, I don't think AT&T will be willing to help me..... Any help would be gladly appreciated! Share this post Link to post
CUViper 0 Posted December 6, 2001 Well, now my computer has "lost" it's DNS capability a couple of times too, so it seems that it's not just ICS to blame. I will try your suggestions, but at this point I'm almost sure it's AT&T, not me. Thanks for the help, I'll keep you updated... Share this post Link to post
Krakn3Dfx 0 Posted December 6, 2001 I have the same problem. It worked fine for about 3 minutes, then ICS sharing on the client PCs in my house just stopped working. Since I haven't changed anything since Excite went down and ATTBI came back up, I think it must be something on AT&T's side, although I have no idea what it could be. I'm going to try some sort of proxy based sharing software tonight until an answer can be found. I can ping and access actual IP addresses from my wife's client PC, but it will not resolve DNS addresses. It worked for about 2-3 minutes when I first picked up a new IP from AT&T, then it just stalled out, works fine on my machine still just won't work on hers. Damn AT&T. Share this post Link to post
CUViper 0 Posted December 6, 2001 Thanks, now I know it's something with AT&T.... I sent an email to tech support, but haven't got a response yet. I also called them; the tech I got was worthless, and she gave me another number to call for help (1-877-292-8333) but that number has been busy the whole time. In the mean time, try entering the DNS servers manually in your wife's computer. That seems to work a little better, but it may still freeze every once in a while.... Share this post Link to post
