Napalm 0 Posted December 7, 2001 OK, somehow I screwed up with my services. Now, Win 2k is acting screwy ... I enabled Net logon and logical disk manager to start up automatically. When I reboot, I can't enable/disable anything in the services. In addition, those two services are stuck in limbo. net logon stopping while log disk manager says starting. Again, I can't start/stop any services (nor do many other things within windows). How do I correct this problem? Or even, how do I start windows to be able to disable services before starting 'em? I know there is a way, I did it before, but I forget how. Can anyone help? Thansk, Napalm Share this post Link to post
ejsmith 0 Posted December 7, 2001 Services are *REALLY* tricking under NT. Sounds like you have some other services that got changed around too. I'm not enough of an expert to help you if you end up having to use the recovery console or 'boot last good configuration' kinda stuff. I know when I start shutting down services after a clean install, I turn all the ones I don't use to 'Manual', with the Scheduler being the only one I completely lockout and disable. There's the 'start/stop/disable' drop down menu, then there's a 'enable/disable' button you can click to competely lockout the service from automatic installation programs turning it back on after you disable it. Sounds like that's what you did on something. There's a list around here somewhere of what each one does, and if you can shut it down without hampering your ability. Share this post Link to post
Flak 0 Posted December 19, 2001 You should be able to get into safe mode by whacking F8 when you get your boot menu, and then selecting it from the list. Whichever services you chagned to automatic you should set back to manual, if the system needs them, it will load them itself automatically when it boots. I've messed up my services before now, changing some of them has really weird effects, strangley enough the worst one to remove is event log, if you dtop that everything goes completely tits up. Check to make sure that it's still enabled Hope this helps Share this post Link to post
