club_ice 0 Posted December 7, 2001 If I have an old 12x CD-ROM slaved to my ATA100 hard disk will that cause the hard drive to be slower? What if I slave an ATA33 drive to an ATA66/100 drive? Will the 66/100 drive use ATA33 speed? Share this post Link to post
neuralfx 0 Posted December 8, 2001 whenever you put anything else on a chain with a harddrive, it has the potential to slow it down, the harddrive should still be able to run in UDMA5, and cdrom will run at pio4 or whatever it runs at.. but its generally a bad idea performance wise to slave anything to an hd in ide. it may not be a huge hit though, but i think it will still run at, .. cdrom's are cheap, and 12x .. is worse than minimum=), well just my thoughts, good luck .. -neural Share this post Link to post
club_ice 0 Posted December 8, 2001 Yeah I think it is time to get a new CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. They are cheap, and I could use the extra speed. 52x here I come. Share this post Link to post
