44Magnum 0 Posted October 22, 1999 HI, I`m running 2128 on one box and win95 on another. I was previously usin win98, and my network between the two was fine. However since putting win2k on, and keeping the same settings, i am unable to see the win95 comp on the network. The card (intel pro100) is workin ok, and i get a connection (the task bar icon, it says connected at 100mbps, blah ,blah) but why when i browse for the comp its not there? Any ideas? Thanks Ian Share this post Link to post
YuppieScum 0 Posted October 22, 1999 By default, Win9x installs NETBEUI as a network protocol. This is because it very quickly will provide peer-to-peer networking with none of the user-unfriendlyness of TCP/IP - no DNS or etc/hosts file to edit, no DHCP or IP addresses to allocate, no gateway to specify. On the other hand, W2K does not install NETBEUI by default, because it's incredibly insecure (easy to spoof), isn't scalable, and isn't routable...in short, it's crap. So, you can either: a. Add NETBEUI to the network protocols under W2K b. Add TCP/IP to the Win9x machine, edit the hosts files on both, blah blah. Also, if you want to do Internet Connection sharing, you'll need to be running TCP/IP... HTH, etc Share this post Link to post
