DremNeonBlack 0 Posted December 26, 2001 Why is the winXP search-function (Start-button/Search) so very much slower than previous windows? Is there somehow I can speed it up? thx Share this post Link to post
OLEerror 0 Posted December 26, 2001 If you look at the bottom on the search dialog panel, you should see a selection to turn on file-indexing. This will speed up file searches quite a bit. Share this post Link to post

ThC 129 0 Posted December 27, 2001 yeah i dont know if file indexing is on by default in w2k or not i know its not in XP, there for XP searches all your disks instead of searching the indexes. Share this post Link to post
insaNity 0 Posted December 27, 2001 I also noticed it is slower at searching WITHIN files Im not sure if this fixes it, but it does at least speed up the interface: Quote: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CabinetState] "Use Search Asst"="no" That takes it back to win2000 style search aka classic search Share this post Link to post
