Delance 0 Posted January 2, 2002 Trying to get X-Com Ufo Defense Gold Edition to run on Win2000 SP2. Used QFixApp on Ufo.exe (ForceDdrawEmulation.dll) and upgraded with the reg. However, the same fuzzy screen appears over and over – done the same process some times to make sure that it was being done correctly. I’m also trying to install X-Com Apocalypse, but the game can’t install because of the stupid buffers and files. I can’t get it to run from an specific config.sys file because the shortcut is inside the CD – so it can’t be edited. Any ideas on those cases? Share this post Link to post
MelixFelix 0 Posted April 3, 2002 o yah, and, i say write a petition for microprose to get their asses back on X-com: genesis. For those of you that don't know, Genesis was supposed to be like X-com 1 and 2 except more advanced and with 3d graphics. Share this post Link to post
MelixFelix 0 Posted April 3, 2002 OK, so i modified my posts a little because i got it working here's how you get X-Com ufo defense working on your windows 2000 operating system using qfixapp v3.4, the new one that comes with the service pack v 1.5 1.) load ufo.exe 2.) go to fixes 3.) Hit the clear button so it clears EVERYTHING 4.) only check : force 640 x 480 x 8 AND forceDirectDrawEmulation 5.) hit the advanced switch 6.) create fix supports 7.) and RUN THat should do it. Now I'm trying to get terror from the deep to work, i downloaded it from the internet, (i actualy bought this game a LOOONG time ago, but i dont know where it is anymore, so i took the liberty of reaquring it). I'm gonna start trying to get it to work after i wake up. If someone knows step by step how to make it work on Win2k, please post so i dont have to fumble around with qfixapp switches. Thanx Share this post Link to post

hpan 0 Posted October 17, 2002 I recently had windows 98SE and I switched my old 3DFx 3 3000 Voodoo with an Nvidia (so that I would go with the flow). I tried to run x-com and the graphics were indeed garbled. I did a search on google (I can't remember what I used) and I found a fix on the windows ports of the UFO/Terror games so that they could run on the newer cards. The site is here: http://f0dder.didjitalyphrozen.com/essay02.htm He explains the problem with the newer cards and stuff. I am on XP now and most of the games I had, don't run. I don't know if this loader is going to work now, I was lucky enough to find this site though - Hpan Share this post Link to post
GomJabbar 0 Posted November 15, 2002 Yeah, nice thing. I can hear the sound now. The only problem is that I still don't get any graphical output, the monitor switches to powersave mode as soon as I start the game (but as I said, music keeps on playing). I tried it with both my GeForce and my TNT2 but no luck. Any ideas anyone? Share this post Link to post
kittycat 0 Posted November 19, 2002 How can I install the fix? If you use a geforce card you have to disable directdraw. Share this post Link to post
hpan 0 Posted November 19, 2002 Ι Have Manli Geforce 2 MX 400 and I don't use any fixes except the one I mentioned earlier. To install the fix, unzip the following to each corresponding places: ldr_XCOM1.exe where ufo.exe is ldr_XCOM2.exe where tftd.exe is. More on the afternoon, I shall write the full paths. BTW, I'd like to thank the creator of this patch, just to be correct. It's F0dder, thanks a lot!!! Share this post Link to post
