Pentium 4 Questions, also 64-bit PCI?

Recommended Posts

Do you need a new case and power supply to switch over to P4 motherboards? Do they not fit in normal ATX cases?

Also I saw these new 64-bit PCI slots on some new boards when did they come out????????

They fit fine in a normal ATX case but you need to make sure you PSU has all 3 connector types for the p4. They are the normal ATX power connecter, a small 4 plug square shaped one and a small rectangular shaped 1. smile

The 64-bit PCI slots have been out for awhile, but most on server boards (and still are last time I checked). SCSI RAID cards are prime candidates for these babies, since they need all the bandwith they can get.

Off the top of my head, I can't think weather this will apply to PCI-X or not.

M4Carbine, so essentially I can keep my ATX case, and swap the Power Supply to a P4-compatible PSU.

Yup, previously i was running an Abit KT7A-RAID in this same ATX case, my new p4 board (Abit TH7-II) has the exact same mounting points as the athlon board so it fits no probs. If this fits then all p4 boards should fit, and you should have no probs.

You will need to swap PSUs if your current one doesnt have the required 3 connectors frown
