Dass Booty 0 Posted February 20, 2002 EDIT - Resident Evil 3 now works fine under Windows XP. I didn't have to make any changes at all. My guess would be that there was a SBLive/XP conflict somewhere. All hail nForce2 onboard Audio! If you are still having problems see this. Everything works fine until i see the text: Farewell to my life. Farewell to my home. After that the game freezes and i have to kill it using End Task. I have tried running it under every compatibility mode, disabled visual themes, run in a window and so on. I have searched google and a few other people have had the same problem. Eidos will not be patching the game, claiming: Quote: Ultimately, it is the responsibility of Microsoft and/or specific hardware manufacturer to provide for backward compatibility with Windows XP; this is to insure that the device drivers are compatible. At this time we do not have plans to change our older titles to make them Windows XP compatible for the reasons above. We realize this may be a problem for some users. I checked NT Compatible and they say it should work fine under XP. Any ideas where i am going wrong? I really want to play this game. Share this post Link to post
Packrat 0 Posted February 21, 2002 I am having the exact same problem. I think that whoever put RE3 as WinXP compatible made a mistake or didn't play it all the way through. If I hear anything I will let you know. Share this post Link to post
Dass Booty 0 Posted February 22, 2002 Thanks for letting me know i am not the only one. There must be a way to get this game going. I love WinXP to much to leave it now. Share this post Link to post
Packrat 0 Posted February 27, 2002 No from what I read in other forums everyone has been having this same problem. They statet they tried it in all compatability modes and everything. But I think it won't ever work for WinXP. Share this post Link to post
Dass Booty 0 Posted February 28, 2002 Bugger. I think you may be right. I have not tried swiching my GeForce 2 GTS with my VooDoo Banshee yet (i bought it a few days ago). I noticed a few people also had a GF2/GF3 and Resident Evil 3 problems. I forgot the system info: Windows XP Home A7V133-C [MoBo] Athlon 1200 256MB ram [Kingmax PC 150] Creative GeForce 2 GTS 32MB AGP SBLive DE 5.1 Share this post Link to post
Packrat 0 Posted March 16, 2002 I am using a Nvidia TNT2 32MB card and So i doubt that the voodoo card will help it. Looks I will have to find a 3d card for my win98 box. Maybe I can find a good PCI card. Share this post Link to post
Dass Booty 0 Posted March 18, 2002 Yeah, looks like i will have to make a duel boot 98/XP. I'll do it when i get a new HDD. *Sigh* Share this post Link to post
Dass Booty 0 Posted April 7, 2002 I decided not to make a 98/XP dual boot. I like my nice stable system the way it is. Looks like i will have to build another system. I'm thinking a Duron/Athlon 600 + Banshee [for older 3DFX games]. Now all i need is some fundage........ Share this post Link to post
MisterP 0 Posted January 2, 2003 Wow, i can't believe it but i was able to play this game on xp! I had the same problems as they were posted: farewell to my life, farewell to my family... and then it stopped responding BUT 8) i tried installing it with windows 98/me compatible and to run it with 98/me compatible (you have that choice in the right click preferences-compatibility) and then i've found out that it doesn't recognize my sound card (creative sb extigy) so i unplugged it and used my default sound (yamaha) and there you go - it worked!!! (and i even finished the game - just to make sure that it works all the way ) Share this post Link to post
