Ekstreme 0 Posted November 5, 1999 Well, I've decided to give this heap of S&@T OS the flick, at least for the time being. One problem after another. First my tnt2 not working, fixed, then scsi card, had to buy a new one, fixed, sound dissapears, can't be fixed, sick to death of constant dumpings from ISP and B*$#%#!T error messages about failing to assign IP address also from ISP. Darn NT 4 was a pleasant experience in comparison. I can only hope that MS can finally get their F*%&$@G act into gear and create something not held together with hotfixes and patches. Back to dual boot 98/NT 4 dual boot for me DISSAPOINTED & FRUSTRATED Share this post Link to post
Seldzar 0 Posted November 5, 1999 well I wouldn't exactly call win2k a piece of **** just because it doesn't work for YOU!. Many people here have it working flawlessly, like me, and love it. You seem to forget this is a BETA OS, not the final therefore more work is being done. Also you probably have NO official drivers for all your hardware, TnT2? nope not official. Your scsi card probably will have proper drivers when the OS is final. Any drivers that come with win2k are basic drivers to ensure windows compatability nothing more. And the dumpings from your ISP could just very well be a telco issue or an issue with your ISP. Or perhaps a simple config problem in your modem setup and your networking setup. Did you adjust your MTU, MSS & Rwin settings for optimal dialup access? There are many many reasons why win2k might not work great for you but it's not a piece of **** OS. You do realize how much MS has to deal with when working on win2k? I'm astounded they have this much compatability and solidity so far. Give it time and they should have all working good and then we can all enjoy this kick ass OS to it's fullest =) Share this post Link to post
SHS 0 Posted November 5, 1999 Ekstreme tell us more about your Full Hardware list would you know & what builder do you have ?. I do agree with Seldzar on that all so note that MS dosen't write the divers. Share this post Link to post
Ekstreme 0 Posted November 5, 1999 Hiya guys, don't get me wrong, 2k is pretty darn good, and I haven't lost sight that it is still beta OS. HOWEVER, I've been running 2128 for about 3 weeks now and am just fed up with problems. I mean, most of them I have been able to resolve, eg drivers for TNT2, bought a new adaptec scsi card, got all my games to work pretty much flawlessly. The main jerk, is my connectiing to my ISP. Wen using 98 I have no problems dialing in or holding a connection for 24 hrs +, at current a few hours if I'm lucky. The main error I get is when calling my ISP's secondary line, it says "Failed to assign IP address". I've been told that this is a 2000 bug and there is patch. However, the patch that I received was for a previous build, not 2128, and I cannot find anything in regards to it on MS webpage. Sb PCI64 sound card. Pretty standard stuff, however, after a little while the sound totally dissapears and the machine has to be rebooted. *shrug* This is my system PIII 450 128Mb PC-100 ram ASUS P2B-F MoBoard Diamond Viper 770 32 Daewoo 710B 17" Monitor Quantum Fireball CR 8.4Gb Adaptec AVA 2902 SCSI card (Had a Tekram DC-310, was replaced because it would not allow ASPI to function when burning CD's) Panasonic(Matsu****a) 8x4x CD-R Diamond Data 32x IDE CD-Rom Surecom EP-325 PCI Ethernet adapter (Detects as Realtek RTL8029(AS) works bweaudifuly) Dynalink 1456VQE-R External Modem There has to be a way around thess problems. It's a shame to have to kill it all because of a few small but signifcant bugs. Any help would be greatly appreciated and prevent another MS assisted suicide BTW do any of you guys hang out on IRC?? I'm always on Undernet nick Ekstreme Share this post Link to post
SHS 0 Posted November 6, 1999 check your modem speed lower it to 57,600 or change it to a standerd modem type sometime this work to. I had to do that same with my SCSI Card "aka Symbios Logic" what a crap card it turn to be even build in Win2K drivers. Yup those Realtek RTL8029 do work good I have 4 them. You may as well for forget about SBPCI64 for now being the drivers s**k any way for now. Share this post Link to post
Ekstreme 0 Posted November 6, 1999 Thanks SHS I'll give that a try with my modem, but I don't think it's going to stop the IP assigning problem, but I WILL try. Share this post Link to post

ZardoS 0 Posted November 6, 1999 I'm still trying hard to like RC2. I have one ISP (of 3) that I can't connect to for some reason (All OK on the dual boot Win98SE) I can't burn CDs on my ACER 4x4x32 Liveware3 for the SB Live won;t istall No drivers for my USB scanner Apart from that ... I love it (really!) smoother and quicker than 98SE pretty good PNP support Like especially love the fact that my MP3s do not hang when I open/shut the CDROM drawer. I am hanging out to get quad sound working properly though and that last ISP .... Cheers, RichardW Share this post Link to post
