mjl135 0 Posted February 26, 2002 I recently bought a new motherboard and cpu, see below for system details. When trying to install Windows XP. It gets to the part that says "Setup is starting Windows XP" and occasionally I get a little bit beyond that, but not much. I've tried replacing the Nvidia card with a VooDoo 3 card. I've also tried removing the Sound Blaster Audigy Plat. I have also flashed to the latest motherboard BIOS. Any suggestions? --Matt Share this post Link to post
Wolf87 0 Posted February 26, 2002 Check for defective ram chips. Check Bios and choose PNP OS installed = NO. Assign Irq to VGA and USB. Allocate devices in PCI slots in accordance with Irq assignments. Avoid using PCI slots 1 and 2. Share this post Link to post
mjl135 0 Posted February 26, 2002 I forgot to mention that Windows 2000 does install and seems stable under the same configuration. --Matt Share this post Link to post
Wolf87 0 Posted February 26, 2002 Remove DVD, Linksys and Audigy to install Windows XP. Add them later. Share this post Link to post
mjl135 0 Posted February 27, 2002 Well, I tried the suggestions given last night. And I've decided that I really don't need Windows XP, and I went back to Windows 2000. It runs just fine, and does everything I need. Oh well, maybe someday when I am in the mood for frustration, I'll try an upgrade to Windows XP. --Matt Share this post Link to post
