Midtown Madness Keyboard Problem

Recommended Posts

When Midtown Madness (1, not 2) was installed on my new computer running windows XP, I ran into a serious problem. Every part of the game ran fine, except for keyboard control. It takes the game a very long time to react to keyboard controls, and it behaved very erraticly. When the game is set to mouse control, it works fine. The keyboard hasn't caused any problems on any other programs. What could the problem be?

My system:

AMD Athlon XP 1900+

512 MB DDR RAM.

ATI RADON 7500

EDIT: The keyboard also reacts slowly in other parts of the game, such as typing in name. I am unsure what model of keyboard it is, but it seems normal (no special features).

I had similar problems with UT when running it in realtime priority on w2k. Problem went away after changing it back to normal priority.

Is the game running on a setting higher than normal priority?

If you didn't change it yourself, it's most likely not the problem. I think you check priority by going into your task manager, selecting the processes? tab and then right clicking the executable (must be currently running) in question on the list of what's running. Then priority should be in the pop up box, move your mouse over it, and the priorities should be shown. I think the current priority setting has a bullet or some marker for indication. It's safest to leave priorities alone, though. Most games run well enough in normal, as far as I know.

Thank you. I checked the priority, and it was set to low. I don't know why, but I think that it was probably something the program itself did. I switched to normal priority, and it started working perfectly. smile

I think this problem is particular to AMD processors, becuase I have Midtown Madness 1, and two computers, one AMD and one Pentium 4. On the Pentium 4, The game worked fine. On the AMD processor, I got exactly the same problem (But the fix that worked for you worked for me too! smile )
