Dxr2 and Dual Boot

Recommended Posts

I have two questions about Windows 2000.

1. I have already installed in drive c: Windows 2000 RC2 (2128). How can I install Windows 95 or 98 without uninstalling 2000? Is there any way to dual boot at this point?

2. I have the Creative PC-DVD Encore Dxr2. Windows doesn't recognize the Dxr2 decoder card. How can I fix this problem? This is the connection: Matrox Millennium -> Diamond Monster 3D -> Dxr2 -> Monitor.

Please reply to my email address which is: astrogeo@x-treme.gr

Thanks.

In regards to your dual boot situation, MS recommends that you install 98 prior to 2000 on a primary partition (C:\) and 2000 on it's own partition. It has worked for me. You could try installing 98 now, to a seperate partition, however when you are done, you're going to need to repair the MBR (Master Boot Record) NT has this option if you go through setup again after installing 9x, it will ask you prior to installing. Perhaps using fdisk /mbr before repairing the MRB might help. I had to do this when using NT4/98 because the 98 boot loader always tried to take over. IF your hard drive is already formatted as a single partition, defrag it as best you can, maybe you might have to run defrag 2 or 3 times, then use FIPS to split your current partition. You should be able to find it around, I know RedHat has it on their FTP under Dos Utils (ftp.redhat.com). If no luck, lemme know and I'll get it to ya.

Good Luck, hope it helps smile.gif

any possible way of getting dual boot back by restoring the MBR or anything else ? without needing the setup, i need to know which files are the MBR so i can get them from someone, up to now i only have the boot.ini, i need to get this win2k working asap or if all fails i'll wait until RC-3, or if someone knows which files are the MBR, zip them up and send them to me, and i'll edit them to my system's specs.

thnx
