sapiens74 0 Posted March 4, 2002 Finally got this game and it rocks! Has a bit of a performace issue tho, has anyone tried it out? It stutters sometimes even at lower resoultions Even with the new update its not as smooth as I'd like Any tried it yet, and with what results? Share this post Link to post
JP- 0 Posted March 4, 2002 Just tried the demo, the actual game works flawlessly but i got horrible lag on every server i tried (on adsl) and this has kinda put me off getting the full thing. I would start walking in 1 direction and then suddenly get warped back to where i was 30seconds ago, it wasnt fun ;( Share this post Link to post
ThC 129 0 Posted March 5, 2002 yeah they are working on the lag issues. I got the full and it rocks hopefully they will get those lag issues worked out. Otherwise this game runs like a dream. One of the most fun games ive ever played. Share this post Link to post
sapiens74 0 Posted March 6, 2002 yeah i love the vehicles ANyone know how to get the curved survaces to work Wont let me check it? Share this post Link to post
ThC 129 0 Posted March 7, 2002 yeah i think you need a GeForce 4 or one of dem new fangled high-priced good video cards. Wait you have a GF4...hmm i dunno maybe the boys at EA/Westwood tech support might now. Or post on those forums. Share this post Link to post
sapiens74 0 Posted March 9, 2002 I've tried every setting even th elowest and it does the same thing. WHen I first enter an outdoor environment it slows down as if to load then is fine after that. Pretty agravating tho Share this post Link to post
ThC 129 0 Posted March 11, 2002 its not your card, it is the engine that renegade uses. The engine is very very buggy i mean i have seen bad engines before but this engine sucks. WAY too many bugs in it. Share this post Link to post
JP- 0 Posted March 11, 2002 Yup, my brother actually bought this. Ive since been playing it and it is total poo Westwood should just stick to 2D games as it seems all 3D ones they make are terrible. Share this post Link to post
sapiens74 0 Posted March 11, 2002 i emailed there tech support and they emailed me back saying my system may be under specs. I copied the specs from here hehe. Share this post Link to post
ThC 129 0 Posted March 13, 2002 LOL how can your system be under specs. LOL under specs. Share this post Link to post

ConQueso 0 Posted March 15, 2002 It handles indoors and outdoors quite well. Share this post Link to post
JP- 0 Posted March 15, 2002 I dont think it does, the outdoors are amazingly angular and the indoors are just plain and dull. It just feels like a really bad arcade game, you just aim the cursor at what you want to die and thats it, no skill involved. Share this post Link to post

It just feels like a really bad arcade game, you just aim the cursor at what you want to die and thats it, no skill involved. Surely you're joking. The Unreal engine is very capable. "...the outdoors are amazingly angular..."*ahem* If your refering to Unreal 1 keep in mind that was made to run on machines as slow as a Pentium 166 with 16MB RAM and 2MB video RAM. C&CR was made to run on a system with a CPU 3 times faster using 4 times more RAM, and a video card 10 times more powerful with 8 times more RAM. Of course outdoors in Unreal 1 look "angular" compared to C&CR, but this isn't a matter of a better engine, but the fact that Unreal 1 was made to run on computers 4 years ago. "...the indoors are just plain and dull..."*ahem* "...you just aim the cursor at what you want to die and thats it, no skill involved..." Ever played the Infiltration mod for UT? Or played Deus Ex? They both use the Unreal engine. Or maybe try de-selecting "auto-aim"? Please. Like a company known for its 2D RTS games could produce a 3D engine rivaling one that's been developing for 5 years. The Unreal engine is easily superior, and is the engine behind the highest-rated FPS out there, Unreal Tournament. Perhaps you should play more Unreal engine based games. Share this post Link to post
ConQueso 0 Posted March 16, 2002 Oh, and let me know if ILM uses the C&CR engine to produce 3D worlds for Stephen Spielberg, like it did with the Unreal engine. Share this post Link to post
JP- 0 Posted March 16, 2002 Woah! thats not what i meant at all, i meant that about the current renegade engine. Share this post Link to post
ConQueso 0 Posted March 16, 2002 Quote: Woah! thats not what i meant at all, i meant that about the current renegade engine. OK, understood. When I said "It handles indoors and outdoors quite well," you thought "it" was in reference to C&CRs engine, when I meant "it" in reference of the Unreal engine... I guess I could've been less vague. Sorry to go off for no reason, but, uh... er... Hey, pretty screen shots, eh? Share this post Link to post
JP- 0 Posted March 16, 2002 Yes pretty screen shots No need to try and sell me the unreal engine, its very nice. Share this post Link to post
ConQueso 0 Posted March 16, 2002 I might actually have bought the game if it used a better engine. For better graphics, and also for better gameplay--seeing as Unreal Tournaments multiplayer code is so solid. Hearing about being "warped" long distances backwards is enough to keep me away. And is the game even playable on a LAN or does it require an online server? Share this post Link to post
ConQueso 0 Posted March 16, 2002 Oh, and M4Carbine, have you tried Infiltration? It has its advantages and disadvantages, but its aiming interface is just plain cool. First, there is no crosshair, so if you aim from the hip, your shots won't be accurate. To increase accuracy, you right click the mouse to actually use the guns sights to aim (or scope if applicable). It's really smooth. And if you try to run while looking though a scope, it's very shaky, so no more 1km sniping while running. Also, the screen tends to stay more fixed horizontally meaning aiming slightly above or below horizontal doesn't shift the view, but rather your arms/gun orientation, so most of the time things look more realistic on screen. Also, you're most accurate with shots while prone, and less accurate while standing (in between while kneeling). Or if your running, you're much less accurate and if your sprinting, don't expect to hit much at all. This eliminates everyone jumping around to avoid being hit, since you can't really hit anything while doing so. I'd just be sweet if this realism was incorporated into Deus Ex 2, though I highly doubt that to be the case. Realism FPS game makers should consider hiring sentry studios and incorporate these differences into their games. IMHO, this is the biggest jump dealing with the aiming interface in FPS PC games since mouselook was first used (excluding pricey VR aiming devices, of course). Share this post Link to post
sapiens74 0 Posted March 16, 2002 Westwood, after I sent them my DXDIAG, and thier little proggie that sends system info. asked me to make sure I had Direct x 8.1 installed. I just gave up. Share this post Link to post
JP- 0 Posted March 16, 2002 Ive not tried Infiltration yet no. I used to play UT alot single player against the bots or on the LAN but never on the net which is why i have never tried mods for it. The main reason for this was that i had a modem at the time and it wasnt fun with 300 ping, not tried it since getting adsl, but ill give it a go later today and download infiltration. tweaked 0 Posted March 19, 2002 totally unplayable here, just constantly stutters, even at 640 x 480! utterly craptacular. everything else runs butter smooth at 1600 x 1200. Share this post Link to post
