matmathieu 0 Posted March 13, 2002 Hi, I have installed windows XP pro. When i check the space available on the drive, 1 Go is missing. after the installation more than 2 go are used. and when i check the size of all the file it is less than 1 Go. I started xp in console mode and i typed dir and this time the result was the normal size. if someone has any idea of what is happening it would be nice. I have installed again XP but the problem was still there Thanks in advance John Share this post Link to post
Palos 0 Posted March 13, 2002 XP uses space by default for System Restore (on all drives) and Hibernation (equal to your RAM). You might want to disable those to get your space back. Also if you have little RAM, the pagefile will take a lot of space as well (default on C) Share this post Link to post
matmathieu 0 Posted March 13, 2002 Hi i understand know. The first time i thought it could be because of the restore system and i made change to this. It is probably the hibernation because i have 640 mo of ram. i am going to check this. What is strange is that i asked some friends and they dit not notice a so big space used by xp. I have more than 1 Go used for that (i understand better now with hibernation) For the hibernation is there a setting or only a file to delete Anyway thank you for the info, i fell better now Mathieu Share this post Link to post
xpadvisor 0 Posted March 17, 2002 Four things are used to reserve disk space 1.System Restore // right click My Computer / System Restore tab / turn off or on /Settings / cut down the space used= less restore points 2.Hibernation // Display properties / Screen saver tab / Powerbutton / Hibernate tab----turn off 3.If this is an upgrade / go to Add/Remove programs and click on the Windows XP entry and remove the backup--400+ Mb 4.Pagefile will reserve 1.5 times the RAM tweak this with care.
