gcforce 0 Posted March 20, 2002 Hello, I bought a Kenwood 72X CDROM drive, UCR421 but only to find out from the website that this puppy is not compatible with XP Pro and Kenwood will not be making any XP drivers for it. This issue is quite disappointing to hear at this point, but I’m not giving up just yet. I attempting to locate XP drivers for this Kenwood 72X CDROM from any source of intelligence out there, geek, super geek, tweaker guru, well…you get the picture…the cyber society. Dose anyone have any info on how I can acquire XP drivers for this Kenwood 72X CDROM? Your info would be greatly appreciated. PS. I’m in the process of building my new computer therefore, I haven’t tried to install the Kenwood 72X CDROM just yet. I really don’t know what to expect when I try to run it under Windows XP Pro. All I know is that Kenwood’s website says that Windows 2000Pro and Windows XP are NOT compatible and drivers will not be supported. Thanks, George Share this post Link to post
ASiDiE 0 Posted March 20, 2002 I don't think you need drivers for cd-roms anymore... or at least it's pretty rare. I have a 72x... and other then it breaking it was working fine in XP.... or maybe it worked for awile and then needed some drivers.. and that's why it didn't work. But I think I put it in my old system and it didn't work also. But I am pretty sure you do not need drivers for it... it should work. Maybe you won't get the full speed.. or something like that.. but it should at least work. ASiDiE Share this post Link to post

Wolf87 0 Posted March 21, 2002 It never had any problem with Windows 2000 either. Kenwood offers Firmware upgrades which are probably included in a new 72X drive. Share this post Link to post
Davros 0 Posted March 21, 2002 Where did you find a Kenwood drive? Those were discontinued last summer, because they break in about 1 year. Or they have lots of trouble reading burned or copy protected cd's. I've gone through 3 of them. The first one was great, one of the lucky ones that didn't break, and read any disk, very quickly. Unfortunately, my apartment burned down a year later. So I put a new one in my new computer, and that one gave me nothing but trouble. Then I got a warranty replacement, and although it works better, it still reads burned cd's terribly slow. Anyway, here's a link to their drivers/firmware page: http://www.kenwoodtech.com/downloads.html Share this post Link to post
ASiDiE 0 Posted March 21, 2002 Davros... I am with you.. This is my second one.. and it's broke.. my first one got really really hot and then just quit working.. My second one is right here on the table.. in peices... damn thing.. Just stoped working one day. I love the drives but the do HAVE a major problem with breaking after about a year or so. Its pretty sad because it was the best cd-rom drive out there. Very quiet, very fast... but all in all a pile of Sh!t! Good luck to any of you guys who still have them!
