PowerUsers Under XP

Recommended Posts

I'm having problems trying to download and install programs using PowerUsers accounts instead of being Administrator. The machine sometimes tells me that i don't not have sufficient resources or permission to do such things. I would like to be under PowerUsers(not administrator) account and do things like downloading and installing progams.I know PowerUsers have restriction unlike administrators but i'm wondering if there's a possible way to go around the matter. Surely appreciate all the help i can get. thank you confused

Right click on the file you want to run and then click "Run As".

This will allow you to pick another user account for running the program, thus applying that accounts rights to it.

But i already did that but still i need access that will allow me (as a poweruser) to install programs, view networks without giving me error messages such as not enough resources or permissions

Oh, I see then.

Click Start, type secpol.msc in your Run box and click ok.

You will now be viewing your security settings. You can add groups to any of the rights shown. I recommend you create a new group, make your account a member of that new group, and add the rights you want to that new group. (Run gpedit.msc to do that.) You could just add rights to the Power Users group, but then you lose track of the default Power User rights.
