^b0rG^ 0 Posted March 31, 2002 I have a strange problem I caused while messing around with media player a while back. I was trying to replace the Media Player executable with the one for version 6 "mplayer2.exe" since it loads faster. It was a real pain to get it to finally replace and then I thought better of it and tried to switch back. Now my wmplayer.exe file shows the correct icon, and launches fine when I click it. I can even right click any file set to open with it and choose "play" or "open" and it works perfectly. However, any file I double click to play gives an error stating: "Windows cannot find 'wmplayer.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." Any clues as to how I can fix this annoying bug? Share this post Link to post
Alien 1 Posted March 31, 2002 OK, I realise this sounds like a crazy question, but WHY on earth did you try swapping the exe files? why didn't you just right-click on a video file, use the Open With function & select the older version of Media Player & select the checkbox that says "Always use the selected program..." & then click OK??? sapiens74 0 Posted April 2, 2002 DO this. Set permissions for the exe. file to not allow the system access. Reboot in safe mode and replace it. Then reset the permisions. Or just use repair on the cd Share this post Link to post

So all you have to do is remember to use the Open With->Choose Program->Always Use This Program funtion the 1st time you use a file type & you won't have to do it again. It's much quicker & simpler, as well as less effort & hassle, to do it this way than to try & do it the way you did. Or maybe you just like doing things the difficult way?
