vincentw56 0 Posted April 14, 2002 I have a client who is moving to Windows XP from a Macintosh. He has a lot of files on his Mac and would like to network it to the Windows XP system. Does anyone know how to do this with Windows XP Pro? I have done it before with Windows 2000 Server, but did not know if Windows XP Pro would allow us to do this. Thanks. Admiral LSD 0 Posted April 16, 2002 This is a tough one. Networking PCs with Macs has always been difficult. XP to my knowledge lacks the Services for Macintosh that 2k Server (and quite possibly 2k Pro IIRC) had meaning you can't do it that way. An alternative is Dave, a commercial implementation of Windows SMB networking protocol for the Macintosh but at USD$149 for a single user it's not exactly cheap (especially since your probably only going to use it once). If the Mac is running OSX (though just why you'd want to trade that for XP is beyond me...) then it should be a simple mater of installing and configuring Samba on the Mac.
