Alien 1 Posted April 21, 2002 Yeah, Abit - don't you just love 'em? So far, I do - this is my 1st Abit board & so far it's running brilliantly. I think my only gripe so far would be the manual, which is a bit vague, or lacking in info in places - especially the part about the pin-outs of the USB header. [i want to connect my Antec ezUSB to it, instead of the supplied back panel wotsit. I'll probably go look for the online/downloadable version of the manual later, to see if it's a bit clearer in there. I purchased the VH6T, read a lot of good reviews (was planning on getting a Tualatin until P4's got better), but it turns out that its a POS that freezes outa nowhere... I could only get it working with a celeron, ... abits tech support sucks, everytime I sent for some help, they ignored me or said 'send your whole system to us and we will test it out'... and if you look at their forum everyone with the board seems to be having the same trouble :-/ Share this post Link to post

narcoticanimal 0 Posted April 23, 2002 hmm.. tyan mobos are the best by far. no overclocking, but complete stability. no overclocking needed, anyway, runs great. never had any incompatabilities with the 2 i have used. narcoticanimal 0 Posted April 23, 2002 lol sort of wandering from the topic... but does supermicro seem pretty good? my next system upgrade will be a p4 xeon, and i noticed they had a nice dual board... but im afraid of leaving tyan, seeing as how i did last time and ended up with an extra pos mobo to add to my collection... [use SpeedFan if you don't have any other method for checking it's temp as it can read IBM 60GXP's temp sensors, amongst other things]. Mine normally stays below 40°C unless I'm really thrashing it with something like a defrag, or unless my room's really warm - if yours reads as much above that then maybe some extra cooling is in order? Alien 1 Posted April 25, 2002 I think I went to download that once for my 75GXP, but I seem to remember that it either could only be used on an empty drive, or that it would wipe any & all existing data on the drive, or am I getting mixed up with something else? Share this post Link to post
JP- 0 Posted April 25, 2002 The basic test wont wipe it and its usually enough to tell if its fault or not, you can do a full read/write test that will wipe the drive. All these HDD companies have the same sort of thing though. Share this post Link to post

I thought I had some bad sectors on my C: partition @ 1 point, as scandisk [was using 98SE back then] said I had - tried reformatting the partition, even tried deleting just that partition then re-creating it & reformatting it, but still couldn't get rid of the buggers. I managed to get rid of them in the end - I spent ages backing everything up that needed to be to CD then deleted all partitions, reformatted as 1 big 1, checked it & was ok - deleted the partition again & created the 6 I have now & is still doing ok.
