I got the motherboard SOLTEK 75 KAV and I recently upgraded my processor from 750 DURON to AMD Palomino XP 1800+

 

To do that I upgraded the bios and it worked fine.

The problem occured when I didn´t upgrade my RAM. It seems like they are a bottleneck for the processor since it only runs at 1150mhz. I got the SDRAM PC100 type. Now i was wondering what kind of RAM to use if I wanna upgrade?

I plan to use either 512MB SDRAM PC133 or, if possible, 512MB DDR PC2100 266MHz.

 

There have also occured a problem since installing the processor I upgraded too, graphic glitches and bugs show quite often in Counterstrike and Dark Age Of Camelot. Any suggestions as to what might cause that problem?

 

I used to OPTIMIZED DEFAULT option in the BIOS SETUP after installing it by the way.

If your processor is rated at 133(266) and your FSB is running 100(200), the processor is not up to speed. Graphic cards particularly under 1024X768 are CPU intensive, so your games may be stumbling from that alone.

 

I really didn't look at your board to see if it could use DDR. Some boards can use both SDRam and DDR. If you are going to stay with SDram, get the PC133 CL2.

 

This is a VIA chipset, you will want to get the latest 4in1 drivers and install them.

 

Once you've raised the front side bus to 133, installed your memory, you will want to clean install XP. XP and 2000 don't tolerate changes and a reinstall or clean install seems to work better.

Not strictly true. I haven't ever installed any 4 in 1 drivers on my XP machine (an Athlon 1.2) and everything runs fine.

 

Try it without the 4 in 1 drivers first.

4in1 drivers are included with windows XP, so if you run XP on a via chipset, you are using the 4in1 drivers, but they are not the most up to date version.

Yup, I know that, but the fact they were included with the OS and that I haven't had any problems would indicate that they are working just fine, so upgrading them just for the sake of it seems a bit daft.

I have also run HalfLife on that machine without problem, but only as a test. I use it for video editing rather than gaming.

I was under the impression from your post that you thought there were no 4in1 drivers in your system just b/c you didn't install them yourself.

 

Also, I'm of the same convention that if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
