cda file format

No sound is produced if I try to play Audio CDs maybe because the .CDA format is not supported.

 

If I play MP3 and WAV file, it works just fine. I can also play VCDs without any problems.

 

I tried to play the songs from the cd drive itself and also I've copied to cd's songs to hard drive and tried to play but no use.

 

Hope somebody helps me out to iron out this glitch.

.cda files are just placeholder files generated by Windows to link CD Player applications to the correct CD track, they're not actually audio files. More likely your problem is whoever built your PC forgot to connect the audio ouput of the CD drive to the CD input of your sound card. You can verify this by plugging a pair of headphones into the front of your CD drive and then playing CD tracks.

Thanks Admiral, It worked...............and also the volume icon is not appearing the task bar.........do you know the reason behind this.

I know under XP its possible to turn it on and off through an option in the Sounds and Audio Devices Control Panel but I forget whether the same went for NT or 2k (I see no reason why not but then, we are talking about Microsoft here) it's been ages since I seriously used either OS.

Just like xp we do have a option in control panel to turn it on. I did that but yet the icon is missing in task bar.
