Eston Eurel Melton IV 0 Posted May 28, 2002 I'm looking for advice. I have a PIII700 and, between the two built-in ATA66 IDE channels and two ATA100 channels on a PCI add-in card, I have four total channels for eight possible drive connections. As it stands now, my hard drive and DVD are masters on the motherboard connection, CD-RW and Zip masters on the add-in card. (None of my drives is up to ATA100.) Today, however, I snagged a leftover 4GB hard drive that I figure I'll use for...something. My question is: where should I stick it in the grand scheme of things? I recall a rule of thumb about faster drives being better masters but, beyond that, I'm clueless. I do a fair amount of CD burning -- any reason I shouldn't put the new hard drive on that channel? Also. What would be the best use for this new hard drive? Would I be smart to move my pagefile to it, so the OS (XP Pro) and pagefile are on different drives? Should I start sticking data files (My Documents, Outlook PST file, Outlook Express newsgroup indeces, Favorites, etc.) on a drive separate from where I install applications? Please, any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Share this post Link to post
