nnk 0 Posted June 1, 2002 Hullo - I have just installed Windows XP on to a Gigabyte GA-6BXD motherboard. There are technet articles relating to choosing a non-a ACPI hal, which I chose. Perhaps it was silly of me, but I now have an MPS Multiprocessor Computer system without USB or software off. I know these are minor grumbles of an excellent OS (and it is good), but could any one shed any light on how to get both of these back? Does the latest BIOS update - the beta F4? (I am running F2, enough for Windows 2000) work? My PC is a : GA-6BXD, Dual 550, GeForce 256 DDR, SB Live!, Netgear FA310, SCSI card, Matrox PCI 450, Dxr3. Many thanks! Nick. Sampson 0 Posted June 1, 2002 Download the online bios flasher from Gigabyte: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/home/a_bios.htm There is an F3 bios. The F4 is beta. Why did you not want to install XP as ACPI? Share this post Link to post
nnk 0 Posted June 1, 2002 I did, (want to isntall as ACPI, that is), however, my installation failed entirely at the Setup is Starting windows bit (article Q310760) and I was forced to follow the instructions: I tried removing the SCSI card first, and nothing changed, therefore tried the Forcing Kernel, which worked. I upgraded my BIOS before, and have forgotten how, and gigabyte have two BIOS flashing utilities. Which would you use, and why? My thanks, Nick Share this post Link to post
Sampson 0 Posted June 1, 2002 I've used both. The one whose page I gave you is the online bios flasher. I prefer it. After downloading it, just double click on it from Windows explorer and it will go to Gigabyte. It will usually guess your machine. If not, it gives you a choice. Then, it installs the bios and saves the old one. Much easier than booting from Dos. Share this post Link to post
nnk 0 Posted June 2, 2002 That I can agree with. However, I went the old way, updated to F3, and XP Pro installed without a hitch, ACPI, USB, the whole caboodle working cheerfully! Many thanks for your advice! Nick Share this post Link to post
