Vendan 0 Posted June 5, 2002 Hi all I'm trying to run a game called Ascendancy. It's from the DOS/win95 era, the publisher is still around (http://www.logicfactory.com), but they only have 1 patch out, and I am unable to install the patch. My problem is I cannot run the game because it's unable to locate my VESA driver. I am running win2k, SP2, with a GeForce 2 ultra video card and the latest drivers. I've checked around and couldn't find much for VESA drivers except some universal vesa prog that was pretty useless. I installed the windows compatability update as per the FAQ, however I still do not have a compatability tab when I click on properties for some reason. Some other people seem to have encountered this problem also. Anyway, I also downloaded the application compatability toolkit and tried to run it under win95/98, but that also failed to work. I'm just about out of ideas here, is this game a lost cause or is there some way to get it to work? I'd be grateful for any help. Share this post Link to post
Uykucu 0 Posted June 11, 2002 Himm, I remember this problem. First of all in order to get the compatibility tab you have to create a shortcut to the executable you wish to run. Only after than you will see the necessary seetings when goto the properties of this shortcut. But unfortunately as far as i can remember this ain't gonna help you a bit. If my memory serves me right it does not work under w2k SP 1, 2 or 99 does not make any difference. However it does work under winxp, with some problems but it does in a way. (Try forcing it to full screen. W2k and Winxp has limited vesa support) What i am going to suggest is, if you like old games like i do. Just scour your local computer junkyard, computer market whatever and get yourself a nice little 486 with ISA sound card, and an awesome 4MB Vesa Compatible PCI Graphichs card. That is what i did when i got so p**sed off with crashing MOO and non working privateer. U. Share this post Link to post
