DoomzDayz 0 Posted June 7, 2002 For some reason XP didnt install ACPI support, and im wondering if there is a way to install it without reinstalling XP. I heard of ways in 98 and such, but how do u do it in XP? The reason XP didnt detect ACPI support i dont know, might be a conflict. Here's my specs: AMD T-bird 1.3 Ghz Abit KG7-RAID 128 MB DDR Sblive 20 GB Western Digital HD Xtasy Geforce 3 Ti 200 When I restart it freezes it seems like its gonna restart but just seems to go in standby and i have to hit the reset button again for it to restart. In order for it to shut down without hitting the power button at the end ihave to enable APM , but it doesnt fix the restarting. Do i have to resintall XP? Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted June 7, 2002 There are ways to replace the files manually in Recover Mode....I believe they are listed on the MS website...but only for NT4. I've been meaning to write up something on how to do it but haven't gotten around to it. Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted June 7, 2002 If it didn't install, you might want to verify if it's been turned on in BIOS before you reinstall. If not, hit F5 at the beginning of the setup, and you'll be able to choose what PC type you want. Share this post Link to post
RedStar 0 Posted June 8, 2002 you might want to make sure your MB is ACPI compliant. Usually, if XP does not enable ACPI..its for a good reason. MS says that altering the ACPI detection routine can lead to unexpected and destabilizing results. In fact, I tried to help a friend install XP on an Asus p3v4x motherboard and failed. But the relevant part here is that, after the several attempts..at odd times the machine would beep 3x fast and the power would fade out or completely fail. This could be during a format or at any odd time. SO i had him disable the power management and the problem has gone away. DoomzDayz 0 Posted June 8, 2002 yeah im sure its ACPI compliant, its an Abit KG7-RAID, and the last couple of computers we've built with that motherboard have installed ACPI fine. There might be a conflict or something, I'll try taking out everything except the videocard/harddrive. Or maybe it could be the power supply? Share this post Link to post
Brian Frank 0 Posted June 8, 2002 Might be the PSU. So long as you've got a good 300W, you should be fine, however, it couldn't hurt to test it out to be sure. Also, that Via686B/SB Live! combo could be a problem, especially if you don't have the 686B/Live patch (driver pack can be downloaded from Abit) Share this post Link to post
