Apoptosis 0 Posted November 27, 1999 Here are a list of my experiences with RC3 now that I have had a week to play with it. If anyone has any solutions to these problems please post them. First, My system: ----------------------- BP6 Mobo running New NJ Bios STB V4400 TNT card running Detonator 3.56 MX300 Soundcard Dual celeron 400 (overclocked to 570) I have found RC3 to be worst than RC2. However, I have changed a few things from RC2. 1. I switched to using NTFS in RC2 to using Fat 32 in RC3. I did this because I was tired of the long installs, and just wanted to try it out. 2. I was using my ensonic 32 soundcard, because the MX300 wouldn't work in SMP mode. Now my problems. -Age of Empires 2 which was working fine in RC2, now crashes. Just recently I noticed it happens when the alarm for one of your buildings gets attacked goes off. So I am thinking maybe although the MX300 drivers now appear to work in RC3 that maybe they are buggy. Has anyone else had this problem? -The Detenator 3.56 drivers I was using in RC2, no longer work. These were directly from ASUS. What would happen is these drivers would load into a lower resolution with 256 colors. I now use chameleon's 3.56 drivers, that seem to work. The only difference between the two is that chamoleon's drivers have a older nvogint.dll from 10-16-1999, and not the ASUS 11-5-1999. It just seems weird that the drivers that did work find now don't. And chamoleon had to mix and match. Major props chamoleon, I didn't want to have to figure that out. -Half-life which worked fine for me in RC2 now gives me "Bad surface extents" errors in RC3. I thought this was a video driver error so I have tried all my previous versions of the W2k detonator drivers. No luck. I have read this may be a install problem, so I re installed half-life. Same problem. I am thinking this may be a problem with Fat32 vs. NTFS. I plan on going back to NTFS to see if this is the problem. I would love if someone could confirm this. -Quake3demotest: I have no idea were to begin with this. It crashes sometimes, r_smp 1 seems to work now, I get weird menus, and mouse trails. I never ran this in RC2 so I am not sure if it is worst or better. Oh, and it is dark. The funny thing is, that I have read many many posts about Win2k with TNT and Q3A and no one seems to have the problems I do. Other than the darkness but I am sure that is the Detonator drivers. -I have not tried UDMA 66 in RC3 yet, but after my experience with RC2 and my BP6 board I am not to quick to try it out again. If anyone has a experience in RC6 with UDMA 66 please post it. Well Thats finally it. Let me know how you guys are doing with RC3. Love, Apoptosis Share this post Link to post
bkehoe 0 Posted November 27, 1999 I too had problems in RC3 on a fresh install with the 3.56 drivers. Flight Sim98 would be garbled up half the time and dxdiag would say that AGP support was not available. Fly! wouldn't run at all. So I decided to do a re-install, and this time used the 3.53 drivers on the graphics card. No problems what so ever! Flight Sim was perfect, AGP support now recognised, e.t.c. I think that it is the 3.56 drivers that are at fault. I have UDMA-66 running fine on my MSI 6167 board, but yours has a different controller, but UDMA66 is supported in general. Everything is going fine since those problems. Got my Hauppauge WinTV-pci installed fine with their PAL drivers. Brendan Share this post Link to post
