logitech camera problem

Recommended Posts

I was working my quick cam express (Logitech item )under win 98 and i updated my pc to win 2000.I 've downloaded the update software from logitech www.logitech.com and istalled it . The cam is well recognized by my pc and works well with netmeeting too.The problem is that i can't launch the set of tools window .It is the main cam program that helps you adjust your cam (light contrast colour) create photo albums ,take and save photos vids etc (as in all cameras) . It has created a shortcut which is supposed to run the quickcam.exe .I am clicking on that shortcut but nothing happens .What is odd is that it seems like it tries to open but it fails .I have tried to activate directly the quickcam.exe which is in a file in my C: but the results are the same . I 've contacted with Logitech support and they informed that i might be helped if i check for win 2000 updates ,downloads .

Can anybody help ?It doesn't seem to be with the camera -drivers -usb,connection because my pc recognizes that my cam is being installed

Try the easy thing. Go to Windows Update from your IE browser (it's found under Tools). Possibly, because W2K has only just gotten a USB driver from Microsoft, up[censored] it may take care of the problem.

If you wanna adjust your camera,

go to the system applet in control panel, pick your camera and hit properties. There is a Tab for you to set brightness etc.

It is very similar with all webcam's. We use them for CCTV stuff a lot.

Or you can reach it via the capture driver properties in whatever SW you are using (I am not sure about Netmeeting)

Thank you both for your answers .

Sampson you suggest a win 2000 update I 've searched for the latest download releases and i haven't found any related stuff . I think it is more likely to be a software confict between win 2000 and quickcam.exe rather than a usb driver problem .Have you any particular downloads in mind ?

Uykucu it is fine as far as it conserns the brightness and similar sets . Is there any similar ways to download a vid or take a photo as it happens in the set of tools program ?

My mistake. I had misread and thought that you were using USB 2.0. You say that your PC recognizes it, have you looked in your device manager to see how it is seen?

Himm let's see, If it recording video or taking snap-shots you are after there a sh*t load of them... You can try my recommendations or just go to TUCOWS (Long live the COW) and download one of the zillion alternatives. We usually use them for simple or complete survelience (Talk about Cheap) and we use Web Cam Control Center or there is one from JPC Software . One massive advantage of these SW is, they work fine and second you can use any compression codec (Hint: DivX) you want.

Alternatively. I know Genius WebCam SW is not picky about the brand of camera etc. if one of your friends happen to have it or if you DL it from their Web site. Than you will have all the functinality that you have mentioned above. Others might do to, I remeber vaguely Creative also had something similar.

I hope it helps.

It is reported as logitech quickcam express ( exactly as it is supposed to be )
Previously when i was working under win98 environment and everything was working well :if there were any problems with the cam (not connected well usb conflict ) the set of tools window was working properly and was informing me to put the cam in the usb for example .
Now the cam is on but i have no soft to work ,download take a shot
the file recomended from logitech for that purpose is unwilling to run .

Logitech has very bloated software from my experiance especially with their cameras and it is hard to uninstall all of it especially in the registry!

Logitech's video quality, even on their best camera is very poor.

If you can still get the Kodak camera DVC325, get it and the newer driver. It is one of ther best cameras out there and its under $60.

I agree it is even worse . Their online support suffers too.I am still waiting for their reply.... for a couple of weeks . They usually sent a vague reply advising you to see the FAQ section ,where there is no solution to the problem .Imagine i am working my logitech camera using soft from another company !!!!!!! ,which works fine .The vid photo quality is below medium .I think i ll soon buy a new one . The Kodak item you suggest seems to be a good buy .How about the photo, vid quality ,is it clear enough ?
