GA 7VTXE & geForce Troubles

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I have Gigabyte GA-7VTXE.

And computer doesn't run properly.

After first screen (proc, mem, and so on)

i see only white Vertical Lines. WindowsXP probably runnihg, but i see the same Vertical lines, but colored ...

Such picture take place with gf2mx400 and gf3(do not remember model), both are from asus.

gf's work on i850 Asus p4t-e, no troubles

they also work on Acorp 6VIA85P.

GA-7VTXE is now with OxygenVX1 - no troubles, but such old card is not for quake3 frown

I do not understand what is the trouble here.

Please, help me to solve it.

Go to Gigabyte and download this utility: http://ftp.gigabyte.com.tw/support/driver/biosflash108q.exe . This will allow you to upgrade your Bios over the net. Next, while your OxygenVX1 is still in your machine - go to your Control Panel and Add/Remove Software and Remove any Nvidia software. Use Windows Explorer and find any Nv*.* files and delete them. Go to your My Computer icon and Right Click, choose Properties, Device Manager, then go to your Video Card and "Update the Driver" only choose Standard VGA. Nvidia insists the before installing its software that you start with Standard VGA. It will probably ask you to reboot so let it do so. After it does, shut down the machine, put your mx400 in the machine. Boot it up, then install the software that came with the Asus card.

You don't necessarily have to upgrade your bios, but often Gigabyte will improve its bios in light of a new operating system particularly when the board was produced before that operating system was on the market.

I think the trouble is not windows. the sequence of screens is following - 1) Video Card Info, 2) Proc/Mem/Bios/.. info, 3) Summary table(interruptions and so on), 4) lilo 5) windows or linux.

first and second screen are correct - no vertical lines, on second screen i can push "del" and enter bios, it works fine.

but third and following screens are just vertical lines.

I tried to boot from WindowsCD and have seen the same Vertical lines.

Which seems to indicate quite clearly that the problem is that Windows will not post with the video drivers and your new card. I believe you said that the old video card allows you to get into Windows. If that is correct - your problem would be in installing the new video card and its drivers properly. The sequence you are speaking of does not require that your video drivers even be present - but the minute Windows begins its graphical interface is when you get the lines - hence - you have a driver problem. Either Windows is using the old drivers for your new card, or it is using a mixture of drivers that your card can't decipher.

i'm amazed.

the configuration is following:

GA-7VTXE/AthlonXP 1.7+/256M/Asus GF3Ti200/Abit AU10/3com 3c905c-tx-m/

when i unpluged 3com network card gf works properly...

with 3COM I tried various pci slots - gf does not work.

So i need buy another network card, its cheaper smile
