Alien 1 Posted June 26, 2002 Looks like I've developed another hardware prob, suddenly out of the blue. I have a Lite-On LTR-12101B [12x10x32x] CDRW, which AFAIK is supposed to use UDMA/33. Now all of a sudden it's on PIO mode, & my CPU useage goes to 100% when I do anything with the drive, whether burning a CD, or just transferring data from CD to HDD. Anyone know what could cause this & how to solve it? Share this post Link to post
pmistry 0 Posted June 26, 2002 Do the usual things, check to see if it still is being selected as "Use DMA if available" Check the BIOS and set the IDE drive to AUTO. Reinstall your chipset drivers. Share this post Link to post
Sampson 0 Posted June 27, 2002 Knowing how meticulous you are with that machine, in your case, I don't believe it is your setup. My guess is the drive itself. Some weeks ago you tested it and you said it was "broken hearted" that it was not recognized. We had a big yuk about that. It may have presaged what has since happened. Anyways, like many who want to put in a modest burner that seems to work and play well with others, I would suggest a TDK VeloCD. Reason - they just work. If you don't want to go that route because of price, my next suggestion is, if you are using Roxio software, uninstall it, and never play with it again. Actually, I use Nero [but not InCD] - which I think may be partially to blame here.The way I solved it was to uninstall the secondary IDE channel, then without rebooting reinstall the 4-in-1s, then reboot. Problem solved. Similar thing happened to my CD ROM [Primary Slave] today [except it just stopped working then disappeared in Device Manager], so I used the same method & it sorted it out. Normally I am very careful about drivers & stuff, infact when I get a new piece of hardware I normally reinstall windows from scratch - which I had intended to do when I got my Audigy, but for various reasons I haven't had the opportunity. In addition to this, when I have decided to do a reinstall in the near future, I usually use this as a time for trying stuff out, like new software, trying more adventurous tweaks, beta versions of stuff, etc, so I'm thinking that XP's most likely just a bit flubbed. Sampson 0 Posted June 28, 2002 I haven't checked Nero's page lately, but as a few months ago, the InCD utility was incompatible with Via drivers. That may have changed since there has been an update to InCD about mid-June. Again, I haven't checked lately so it may still be incompatible. However, congrats on getting it functioning. Linuxboy00 0 Posted June 30, 2002 I use Nero 5.5.8.2 with my plextor cdrw drive and I have no problems at all in Win2k or WinXP. I've formated cdrw disks in nero, and it's so freakin easy. I would have to say, that I've never had a problem with me Plextor drive ever. They have good products as far as I can say. Share this post Link to post
